Within the Walls of Home
They say the most important work you’ll ever do will be within the walls of your own home. I know that to be true — now. At first, though, being a stay-at-home wife felt like a cage, confining my ambitions to the domestic sphere. All of a sudden, all my dreams were dead. Then, a strange thing happened. The weight of this perceived loss, heavy and suffocating, began to settle. And as it did, a profound shift occurred — the idea began to settle around me, and then, slowly, they started to seep in.
I discovered that the work within these walls is not the drudgery of endless laundry and dishes, though those certainly have their place. It’s the invisible, often thankless labor of nurturing young souls, shaping tiny minds, and guiding hearts. It’s the art of creating a safe haven, a space where laughter rings freely, creativity flourishes, and where fears can be whispered without judgment.
It is witnessing the awe in my child’s eyes as they discover the world, the pride in their small accomplishments, and the heartbreak in their first disappointments. It’s about teaching them resilience through scraped knees and navigating the complexities of social dynamics. It’s about instilling in them a love of learning, a curiosity about the world, and a deep sense of empathy for others.
But, it’s even more than that. It’s the little traditions, the memories: s’mores…
