Who Is Behind The Gulf of Oman Tanker Bombings?
A look from three different perspectives
On the morning of Thursday, June 13th, two oil tankers were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial oil transport route, stoking fears about escalating tensions in the region. No one was injured. No oil was spilled. Immediately, Mike Pompeo said Iran did it. Iran says the US or Israel is to blame.
International allies to the US have been apprehensive to point the finger, noting placing blame in the wrong hands can escalate the situation quickly, rightfully so.
So, who really is to blame?
The Evidence
The current “evidence” points to Iran. Iranian navy personnel can be seen attempting to remove an unexploded limpet mine from the hull of one of the vessels, removing markings after removing the mine.
However, the Japanese vessel operator said a “flying object” hit the vessel, sparking controversy.
Some would suggest an international investigation should be first conducted before jumping to conclusions, given the circumstances.
